Great reading for any solar DIYer By radost32 In my opinion, the general part should have been a bit shorter since every DIYer is well familiar with the very PV basics. Nevertheless the book is well written and contains lots of practical information –the site survey tips, ‘whether to go solar’ checklist and the cheat sheet at the end. The examples seem quite adequate and well developed. I think they will work and I‘m going to apply one of them to connect my laptop to solar power.The book describes various free software tools for PV system design. I wonder whether the authors provide a similar sizing tool and whether it’s free or not.

Comprehensive and practical guide By Valery Peykov There are many publications on the subject, but in my opinion this book represents a truly comprehensive and practical guide about how to design and put together all of the parts of а solar power system. The book may save many hours of research and confusions and in the same time is full of practical shortcuts and applicable hints.

As a homeowner interested in going solar, the book was helpful and provided useful information, but some sections were a little more technical (many formulas) than I needed. More helpful to me was the authors' other recent book, "The Truth About Solar Panels", which I recommend to anyone interested in solar electric systems.

This book was a much-needed breath of fresh air for me as it was so different from the crime thrillers I usually read.Set in India, this emotional story revolves around the lives of two sisters, Sharda and Puja and their teenage children Kushi and Raj.A promise made...One day, while young Sharda and Puja are playing in the fields, they promise to '...always look out for each other and love each other best.'A promise broken...However growing up, something happens in their lives, something that drifts them apart from each other, breaking the bond between them and the promise they'd made in the process.A phone call...Unexpectedly after twenty years the silence is broken. Puja hears her sister's voice over the phone.Why did Sharda call Puja after all this time? What does she want? How does Puja react to her sister's call? 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. who's family life is shattered by love and betrayal By sarah hardy This is the first book I have read by this author and it certainly won't be the last.A Sister's Promise is a story of two sisters Puja and Sharda, who's family life is shattered by love and betrayal.I can only describe A Sister's Promise as being a wonderfully gentle read. The story is beautifully written and though told through alternating chapters by mainly Puja, Sharda and Kushi, one of the sisters daughters, it is easy to read. Through the sister's stories we are transported to India with the heat, sounds and smells.The main character that stood out to me is Kushi, I love her strength and her compassion. The world would certainly be a better place if there were more people like her in it. I liked both sister's but for me Puja was the one I could relate to, more so in her younger years.I think this story holds an important message of how strong family bonds can be and how life is to short to hold grudges.A heart warming story which I think will appeal to many readers.Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

By Haley Mathiot Kerry Lord has broken down the 40+ bird patterns into 3 basic categories of skill levels: basic knowledge of simple stitches and basic color changes, a little more complicated with stitches and color changes, and then lots of color changes. She’s also simplified the patterns by creating basic body/neck/head patterns, different kinds of feet and wings, and then telling you which ones to combine, when/where to modify to make that specific bird. For instance: a bird pattern will say: Work the “Grasping Leg but add more rounds before the wrist.” Then after you’ve got most of the body, the rest of the pattern tells the specific things, like the peacock feathers, or the specific beak for that bird.It’s a very concise way to do it and I like it.It’s also very open about the size. Basically, she says to use whatever size hook and yarn you want as long as the tightness of the fabric works. Imagine being able to make a series of super cute dodo birds, or a nice big cuddly stuffed turkey! I want a cuddly stuffed turkey.I think this book is super cute and I want to make peacocks and swans and eagles and flamingos now. I totally recommend checking out Edwards Menagerie Birds and the original Menagerie!

And the good thing is that you don't have to do it all at one go and you only need to spend around 10-20mins per day. and the most important tips of all is how to prevent your home from getting cluttered again after you have spent a lot of time into decluttering. So you don't waste all your efforts.

I like the Bonus Tips section especially on one simple way to declutter is to sit on the couch and scan the room for disheveled and unorganized items, for just a few minutes in a day or week. Many other suggestions on how to avoid cluttering from shopping without a purpose, 5 mins scanning, choose one item a day to declutter, etc. I have chosen a few minutes a day to declutter. What about you?

This is a follow up to Denise Peck and Jane Dickerson's first book - Handcrafted Wire Findings - another awesome find! This book features 30 different techniques/components, and each one, in my opinion, lends itself to design variations making them not only handcrafted, but truly one-of-a-kind. In addition to the author's own designs, the book features techniques from other stellar artists.This is truly a book tailored to TECHNIQUE - not a "show me a necklace with beads and how to make it" type book. Not that I have anything against those type of books, but it is the technique I want to learn! So appreciative of this fact!In addition to the thorough step-by-step instructions with photos, sources are listed for each design element, and the back of the book includes detailed instructions that, if one was a novice to metal work, would prove very helpful! In my opinion, the designs/techniques range from fairly easy (great for a novice) to more challenging.This is a book for handmade artists - those who are tired of sourcing mass produced components - bead caps, bezels, head pins (and not just plain head pins!), ear studs, connectors, etc. I have already completed several designs utilizing the techniques offered in this book, and I am itching to make more!

By Jean Baldridge Yates The uber fun, wonderfully insightful and creative jewelry designers, Denise Peck and Jane Dickerson, have teamed up once again to delight us with a great new book, Handcrafted Metal Findings, 30 Creative Jewelry Components. I love their modern, hip, artisan jewelry style, which employs all kinds of marvelous metals! This sense of style is ever apparent in this, their latest offering. However it should be noted that these great instructors always work referencing classic design in their jewelry pieces.They base their creations on solid techniques. Handcrafted Metal Findings will not lose its appeal at any point in the near future or going forward. You will continue to learn and create from it for years to come.Get ready to love making your own jewelry findings!Findings are the finishing touch and as such are one of the most fantastic ways to personalize artisan jewelry. Handcrafted Metal Findings has the reader covered by offering a multitude of components in every style you could possibly imagine to add to and dress up your own jewelry! Although it does not primarily focus on finished jewelry projects, you get plenty of photos and available sources, if you are inspired to make a complete project you have fallen in love with, from this book. The reader will find that often the contributors show their own finished designs, as well as providing great instructions on how to use their techniques for their specialty components. It is such fun that a number of other wonderful metal crafting designers have been invited by the authors to share their talents and expertise as well.There are projects on all sorts of bails, bead caps, clasps, ear wires, links, charms, head pins, tube beads, and more. I couldn't resist any of them. This book will open up all sorts of possibilities to anyone who tries these projects. They really will make your jewelry sing!As the authors say in their introduction,"...Why design a beautiful custom piece and then finish it with a commercial finding?" A good question! Once you see what you will be learning to make, it is doubtful that you'll ever choose to resort to store bought findings on any sort of regular basis again! There are thirty projects in Handcrafted Metal Findings to get your groove on. Once you understand how to make them (and the instructions and photos are exciting and wonderfully clear), it will be ready, set, GO!The reader will get such great understanding of how to make findings that he or she will be able to riff easily off of these glorious projects.I want to commend the authors for their comprehensive, mindful sections at the back of the book. These sections clearly explain essential techniques and working with fire. There is also an excellent metals glossary and tools glossary. Plus you will find full sized templates to help you out with some of the projects. Nothing is left to chance in this thoughtful book. I really like how Handcrafted Metal Findings is set up. Unlike many design books, you have the party (the stunning projects) in the front, and the business (how to refine your techniques, and what you will need for your own studio) in the back.One of the projects I loved was titled, "Sugar Skull Clasp", by Jane Dickerson. Made of silver, copper and brass, this sweet clasp (no it is not scary in the least!) is completely charming. This clasp is such a winner that I would design a whole project around it, showcasing it. It has decorative hammering on the silver sugar skull which you create using a template from the back of the book, and your mallet and bench block. It has the cutest, prettiest decorative copper flowers which you also learn to make. They are adorably riveted to the clasp with centered brass micro nuts. The flowers and the brass nuts make the eyes of the sugar skull. The colors and appeal of this clasp are exceptional. If you are anything like me, you will jump at the chance to make this! As you learn from it, you will also find that it teaches you a ton of skills to add to your repertoire.Double win on that, as is the case with any project you try from Handcrafted Metal Findings! Jane also teaches a project later in the book, the "Oval Duo Connector", which appeals to me especially as it uses recycled plastic bottles to add striking, vivid color to the ovals made of riveted, hammered sterling sheet.I would never have thought that recycled bottles could add so much to the look of a finding. These connectors are positively elegant.If you like a little romance in your jewelry, try contributor Cindy Wimmer's "Rosette Link and Hook Clasp". This spiraled wire design transitions easily into a finding for earrings Cindy made as well. The earrings are featured in a photo accompanying this wonderful project. You will get all sorts of inspiration from the project and the earrings too!Do you like things simple, as in simply beautiful? Check out Denise Peck's "Simplest Toggle" which features a patterned wire toggle bar you make. It is a marvelous juxtaposition to the brilliance of the plain silver circle toggle. This is another example of how this book offers modern takes on findings which will always remain in fashion, eternally classic yet so new at one and the same time. Another marvelous project by Denise is her "Meander Ear Wires". These are so striking in style that you could wear them without any additional embellishment. However, they are looped at the bottom so you can attach any bead of your choosing if you wish. These ear wires are so basic, and yet so pretty, that it will be hard not to want to make them over and over, to feature your favorite gemstones or charms. Need a charm? Find one in this book, either by using beads with a bead cap project, such as "Loophole Bead Caps" by Kerry Bogert, or go to town with the sweet mini charms designed by Denise, the "Silver Berry Charms" which each have a tiny pattern hammered on the front and look great clustered. You will like the inspiration photos which accompanies this project and shows the charms almost spinning as they light up and accent an ethnic style beige and black bead necklace made by Denise.One more project I was entranced with is the "Dreamy Discs Clasp" by Jane Dickerson. Her use of color in this project is once again, outstanding. It is a luscious orange and purple accented with shining silver. This fascinating wrapped leather cording clasp also makes a wonderful focal, serving double duty suspended from chain. It will be something you will love wearing any time you are feeling ebullient, cheery and stylish. Lampwork rondelles and a lampwork disc make friends with the purple ultra-microfiber suede cording and the silver so naturally and prettily. This could be your starting off point for numerous variations inspired by your own love of color.Kiersten Giles offers a copper sheet project which is really great as well. It is called the "Textured Bead Tabs". These decorative copper tabs look almost chased. They are flowery and pretty. They are designed to work with waxed lined cording, adding a custom look. I have a Lab who sometimes gives my wife and I a hard time but after following a few of these steps our dog starts to listen and take orders well. When I return home from office he starts jumping all over me until I get totally frustrated. The same thing happens with the guests. He becomes very uncontrollable. And it feels really embarrassing to see my dog begging constantly! I think it's the right time to add some discipline to his warm nature. I just followed the instructions from the book and turned away from him when he jumps over me and started to pet him once he calmed down. It worked right for me. I am still working to discipline him around the guests.

By Josie Its hard to train an outside dog inside tricks, my husband and I had to face a lot of trouble with our Sweety as she was very aggressive. Training her became our first priority and we dedicated our weekends and free time in doing so. Positive reinforcement technique really worked well and we started to see results pretty fast.
