Introduction
The goldfish is a member of the Cyprinidae variety of freshwater fish of the order Cypriniformes. All goldfish belong to a single species, Carassius Auratus, and are members of the carp family (which also include Koi carp and the Crucian carp). The goldfish that we know today were first domesticated by the Chinese and have now been kept as pets for over a thousand years. After hundreds of years of selective breeding, goldfish now vary greatly in size, body shape, and fin configuration. They also come in a wide variety of colors, including white, yellow, orange, red, brown and black. This diversity is certainly part of their appeal to goldfish keepers. A tank of fancy goldfish can make an exotic and fascinating focus for any room, and the owners can also become very fond of their pet fish. Goldfish can become tame and will learn to recognize their owners and to understand that humans are not a threat to them.
Today's goldfish have been bred selectively by Chinese, Japanese and European fish keepers for hundreds of years, and this has created some extraordinary goldfish varieties. Some of these are extremely weird and wonderful. "Fancy" goldfish varieties have very extreme characteristics, ranging from the slow-swimming black Moor goldfish, with their trailing fins and boggling eyes, to the hooded and egg-shaped Ranchu (known to the Japanese as the "King of Goldfish"). It is extraordinary to think that all modern goldfish are derived from the plain but hardy wild brown carp. Early Chinese fish keepers of the Sung Dynasty period (960 to 1279 A.D.) were the first selective goldfish breeders. They noticed that the little brown river carp sometimes produced mutated golden fish with brighter, shinier scales and unusual fin shapes. It was during this time that individual fish, or pairs of fish, were first kept as pets in decorative shallow bowls, and the breeding of fancy goldfish began. The "mutated" fish were the forerunners of all of today's goldfish. The Common Goldfish, for example, is only one genetic step removed from the ancestral carp.

I wanted to learn more about the Birman breed and found actually 3 pages about Birman cats. The rest of the book was generic cat information. There are absolutely NO pictures in the book except the one on the cover. Then the book lists 23 chapters, but my book ended with chapter 14. I'm sorry I bought this book. You can find a lot more information on the Internet for free.

White Really fun, unique designs, from a classic Dia de los Muertos pattern to a Vegas gambler with an Elvis-like pompadour. I like using gel pens for the designs and then using colored pencil for the skull itself to make the colors stand out.

And for her I will tell her about how to use essential oils as a natural cleaning recipe. The section of depression and anxiety really opened me up to the power of essential oils. I had no idea they could be used for that purpose, so I applaud the author for providing this vital and natural remedy for mental issues.

I don't recall a male main character in a horse series since Kit Ehrman's Steve Cline. Simon's "voice" rang true, not only about his riding and relationship with horses, but navigating the late teen years of a boy who knows he is different in so many ways.Being a working student for a trainer is a lot of drudge work and with a less capable writer the story could easily have become bogged down in the minutiae of daily chores. Yet the year rolled right along with lessons learned about horses, people, relationships and life.The twist at the end was the only piece of fiction that felt a bit deus en machina but hey it could happen.Over all I enjoyed Fortune's Fool very much and read it pretty much straight through, which doesn't happen often enough with the books I've read lately.

It does a good job of nicely combining tons of information about riding and equestrian competitions with an engaging plot with complex, well-developed, interesting characters. Ms. Pagones does a particularly good job of evoking the landscape and environment in which her story is set. It is a sequel to "The Horse Is Never Wrong," which was also extremely well done - but the two books can easily stand on their own. While labelled as "young adult," it is also mature enough to satisfy an adult reader. To the commentors who noted - some negatively - that the lead is a young gay man, his sexual orientation is simply another facet of his personality and handled beautifully. (Parents, there are some make-out scenes and implicit, not explicit, sexual content. As a mother of a 12 year old, nothing that I would feel uncomfortable having a young teenager read). It's nicely set up for a sequel or more in a series. Ms. Pagones has created a vivid set of characters and I look forward to hearing about all of their future adventures.

A Horse Story That's a Little Different By H/J Girl Finally a horse novel where the talented, just-scraping-by working student doesn't dream of making it to the Olympics! In fact, Simon states in the beginning of the book that he'll just be happy if he can carve out a decent life for himself that involves working with horses.Even though he's clearly very intelligent, he's never been focused in school and forgoes college to work for an old school eventing trainer. This book is refreshingly not full of many of the cliches that seem to go hand-in-hand with horse books. Simon doesn't win everything there is to win, he actually has to work hard, and he also has to grapple with the fact that he's gay.While it may be easier to be gay in the horse world than in other industries, Simon still has a lot to figure out regarding his sexual identity, especially when he finds himself falling in love with an older vet. Their relationship is a big part of the book. I'll admit I hadn't ever read a book focused on a gay relationship and I found it interesting. Pagones does a good job sharing details and getting at emotions but keeping things at a level that won't alienate heterosexual readers.Simon's voice is authentic and strong--one of the highlights of the book. The characters are all realistic, not cardboard cut-outs. If you're looking for something a little different than the usual, give it a read.

As one of the lower reviews points out, some of these images do appear as sketches (on the more difficult/busy pages, it is hard to determine what certain elements are), however, all said, this is a beautiful and true-to-comic art form for coloring. Fans that want to take time to color, to enjoy the heroes and villains that they adore (from Marvel) and are looking for a good quality book, THIS IS IT! There are some plain/boring images, but for the most part, the book has some great images! Backs of pages are blank, and pages easily tear out for coloring. I've used colored pencils and markers. Heavier markers (i.e. copics) will bleed through fairly easily, but this is a great book for colored pencils or inks.

I'm mostly enjoying the coloring book, although a lot of the pages are very busy and it's sometimes hard to figure out where one character ends and another starts when there is so much overlap. At least that makes you appreciate the work of the actual comic book colorists all the more! The art is fantastic of course, although I'm partial to the splash pages that aren't as busy. I've included scans of two completed and one in progress page. I'm using both felt tip pens and a good set of colored pencils, although I often find I need more colors. The paper is nice and heavy, but I don't think it's heavy enough for watercolor paint, although I may try. As a comic book fan, it's hard to color these pages/characters in anything other than their "actual" colors, although I think I'm doing better at getting away from that. I think it will be hard for most comic book fans to not look for color guides for these characters and just try to go with what works for you. No criticism from me either way, it's all for fun. It's nice to be able to pull the pages out of the book. Images are on one side of the page only, and there is a good variety of pages included, from splash pages to pages with comic book panels (no lettering). On the inside front and back covers there are a total of eight colored pages if you want to use them for reference, although you will not find all of the characters present in the book referenced there. For many of the pages expect to sit down and spend a lot of time getting them finished. I marked it down one star because a lot of the pages are so busy, so heavily inked, that I don't think they're suitable for a coloring book. Also, the black inked parts will smear into your colors if you rub them too hard, or use a blending pencil as I did on some of the pages.

I love the details in the book and can't wait to start coloring. An excellent buy for $6.79. I will post pics of my favorite pages. Must buy for coloring book/comic fans!!

About the Author Nadifa Mohamed was born in Hargeisa in 1981. In 1986 her family temporarily relocated to London; this move became permanent with the eruption of the Somali Civil War. She was educated in London and went to Oxford to study history and politics. She finally returned to Hargeisa, now in the new Republic of Somaliland, in 2008. Her first novel, Black Mamba Boy, won the Betty Trask Prize, was long-listed for the Orange Prize, and was short-listed for the Guardian First Book Award, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the Dylan Thomas Prize, and the PEN Open Book Award. In 2013 she was selected as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists.

Understanding the world By knitreader The three women at the heart of this book (and "heart" is just the right word) are thoroughly different from one another--in age and background as well as in the direction each is headed, or thinks she is. Yet in the end, the essential humanity of these women and the inhumanity of the world they have to deal with conspire to bring them together in an unexpected way. The writing is excellent, and it can bring the reader to see the lives of its protagonists and the dissolution of their society. It may be difficult to understand lives that are so very different from our own, but this writer helps us to do so with subtlety, humor, and strength.

Not only did the book help me understand the terrible costs of civil war in a country like Somalia, it is a great anti war book which I hope will be widely read.My only criticism is I wish the book had a glossary, and some historical notes about modern Somalian history.

The stories of the intertwined lives of 3 women is beautiful. The background of the war in Somalia brings intensity and a new perspective and understanding of all of this. It is a novel that I want to share with everyone I know for a variety of reasons. It is also a novel that I will want to read again. Outstanding!

The individual chapters are character studies of these unsung individuals. "Designing Women," is the third novel John has published with FriesenPress. The first, "Room for Enjoyment" (2012) details the construction of an estate and the inner workings of a New York City based interior design office in the 1970's; the second, "Beggars Island" (2014) chronicles guarding the Communist prisoners on Koje-Do island, Korea during the latter part of the Korean War. An earlier non-fiction, "All About Walls," a guide book on interior design, was published by Popular Library in 1969.

By Margaret Gibbs We are fortunate that John Elmo was "Chosen" to receive the "gift" of interviewing these 13 amazing "designing" women of the 1850-1959 century of Design. His novel approach to sharing their lives and careers with us provides us a very intimate experience with the ladies and the author. I loved it! Also love the family support from Son, Daughter, Grandson and Daughter-in- Law.

I started reading this before my summer vacation,but I liked it so much that I saved it for enjoying it during vacation. The concept of interviewing women that have left their footprints on decoration, and are no longer in this life, was magnificent. It was also adding a mysterious touch of metaphysics. The description of their designing style along with information about their lives and their personalities made it very easy to read. It was obvious that the writer had performed very detailed research. I believe that all student designers and decorators will benefit from this book in understanding the female contribution in designing, and it definitely can used as teaching source for designing and decorating classes. For reporters the book itself is a solid inspiration for a documentary film. Well done!

By couponsdoworkdotcom This book gives different methods to chose from to train your puppy that works for you. For example , that may be right for you and your puppy/dog:"electronic training, model-rival training, dominance-based training, relationship based training, koehler method, motivational training, clicker training"and once you read what each one does, and you try them out, that will help you in the end "oh right, so the clicker method is not for me but maybe I will try the koehler method instead" Only because my MIL said to use the dominance training and the trainer I hired did the clicker method. My MIL didn't agree with the trainer - (MIL's go figure lol.)The book goes on talking about rewards. You don't give them a reward for no reason. You give them a reward if they do something right. Such as, going to the potty outside instead of inside. You say "Good job" and give a treat. Or when a dog does something bad, it says to ignore it and the dog will eventually stop...but do not ignore everything such as when a dog chews the wood on the stairs. That you have to reinforce "bad dog".I like how the book give you commands and the right way to do them, and even though my dog is trained, I did have fun using them. He knew "sit" and "Lay down" ....but the fun one was teaching my dog `leave it'...because I usually say "Stop it, away from my kid's toy. Stop chewing it". And teaching him that command was better and he understood it better and stopped going after the kids toys to chew.I also think the section called "home essentials for your dog" is super helpful because that is ONE of the biggest questions when getting a dog...- See more at: [...]

One a puppy untrained of course and the other, a full grown 1 year old who's never even been taught to sit! I have my work cut out for me and although I've thought of myself as a pretty good dog trainer with my past pups but I thought why not give this book a try.I think it's nice, short and to the point, lots of helpful tips minus any unneeded filler text. Despite thinking I knew mostly everything I did actually learn a few things. I also like that there is information on multiple training techniques without insisting you use one verses the other. I appreciated the non biased information, simply put if your trying to figure out a method of training that would work for you this book is packed with info!Having put a few of these techniques into play with my two fur balls I've been pretty happy with this book!

This is a fairly quick read & concise in wording so that you can spend more time training your puppy/dog. Now if you wanted a book to help you teach your furry friend how to do tricks, try a different e-book. John has just published a book of his kites made entirely from natural materials. New books that feature kites are becoming a rarity so this one is a welcome addition. This large, 176 page, book is primarily a catalogue of splendid illustrations of his unique kites; all made from natural materials mostly harvested by John. It is clearly a labour of love and reflects a long trail from meeting artist Claude Comallonga, becoming inspired and then spending several years developing his own techniques, creating the kites shown in the book, flying them and now presenting them here. Although primarily photographic, John does briefly explain the materials, the processes and the kites themselves... I particularly liked his "Leaves and Keys" kite made from Sycamore Leaves and Keys ... He describes it thus: "In Autumn, it often seems that there are more keys than leaves. And then they fall down. I captured some. Now they float upwards. Magic!" Poetic. This is a book to accompany the many exhibitions of his work. About the Author Elias Weiss Friedman grew up near Philadelphia, in a big family of brothers, sisters, cousins, and dogs. After graduating from Boston University in 2010, he moved to New York and held a job at a major brand strategy agency for two years. But after a round of layoffs, he wanted something more authentic and creative to take on. Inspired by his circle of friends in New York City’s startup culture, he decided to combine the two things he has loved since childhood: photography and dogs. Friedman created the wildly successful blog and Instagram feed, @TheDogist, in 2013.

Elias Weiss Friedman hit the nail on the head with his Instagram account. His photos make my household laugh, cry and gasp with ooows and awwws. But I am sorry to say that the design and layout of this book doesn't do his photos any justice. Someone needed to be told less is more. Instead of this being as special and unique as his Instagram postings, this book falls short. I am disappointed. I have attached a picture of a spread - there is a shot of a Borzoi named Rhett (with pink dye on it), this was one of my favorite shots ever and it is tiny and jammed into the binding of the book. Sad. I was really hoping this book would represent Elias Weiss Friedman's amazing talent. In the end, I am keeping this book to support him and his efforts but I hope his next book has a new designer!
19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. I love this book By Christopher Kalani I love this book! It's filled with so many dogs of all shapes and sizes. Some are cute, some are total dorks, but they're all really well shot. Elias is great at capturing each pup's personality and his passion for dogs really shows in his work. The Dogist is just a great book to have around, I don't want to call it a coffee table book, but it is on my coffee and it's super fun to crack open anytime. Friends love it too! Just buy it, stop reading this review.

He captured the emotion and personality of each dog and I couldn't wait to turn the page to see more. To see each of their faces brought pure joy! I bought 6 books... 1 for me and the others are Christmas gifts for my family. I know they will enjoy it just as much as I did!
