Learning To Share By prisrob Do you like to share your toys or do you like to keep them for yourself?The author, Leela Hope, has written another innovative story with a lesson to be learned. Ernie the elephant was small, not as big as the other elephants, but he has learned that it is OK to be a smaller size. His good friend was Martin the mouse, and they had a wonderful time playing together. When Ernie played with Martin he learned quickly that Martin asked to borrow many of his toys,but Martin never shared. This bothered Ernie, he had always learned to share. One day, Ernie asked Martin if he could borrow one of Martin's toys, Ernie said he would bring it back on the weekend. Martin said, "No", he needed that toy. This broke Ernie's heart,and he went away crying. Martin asked his mother what was wrong. When you read this book, you will understand what occurred, and how this issue was resolved.Parents/teachers will enjoy reading this book to their children. This story has several lessons to be learned, and reading stories is a good way to do that. The writing is in rhyme,mand everyone I know enjoys reading rhyming books. The illustrations are bright and vivid, and they depict the adventures of Martin and Ernie. A really nice way to learn to play together. Her writing covers a span of several genres, but she always returns to her first love, children's fiction. And it is there that her star shines brightest. Always finding something unique on which to base her stories, she makes each tale a learning experience for children as well as offering some pointers for parenting!Once again we are spending time with Ernie the elephant who is small but has a big heart. On the other hand Ernie’s friend Martin Mouse was much smaller but had so much confidence that he seemed like a giant. Martin loved visiting Ernie’s house but was always borrowing toys, a trait Ernie didn’t begrudge – except that Martin never shared back. Ernie finally asked Martin to borrow an action figure toy, but Martin refused, making Ernie sad and he ran away. Martin felt terrible he had made his friend sad and in sharing with his mother, Martin’s mother told him he was selfish when he played. Martin goes through his toys, takes his favorite action figure toy to Ernie’s house – and the act of sharing restored their close friendship.Delightful illustrations and a very solid learning experience shows that Leela remains on top of the heap of books of this genre. Silk, Author/Reviewer Ernie is a small elephant who doesn't let negative comments about his size bother him any more. He has confidence and likes himself the way he is, especially since he has met Martin Mouse! They play together but sometimes Martin borrows too many of Ernie's toys. Ernie is willing to share with friends, but sometimes his toy box winds up empty. When it comes time for Ernie to borrow a toy from Martin, he becomes possessive ... not willing to share with Ernie. This is probably one of the most important lessons for even the youngest children to learn. I enjoyed this story and the beautiful, cute illustrations. Excellent rhyming narration, loved it. Check out the other books authored by Leela Hope, they all have wonderful ways to help children be better friends.
