By Graehound This is such a solid book with so much great advice regarding woven jewelry as a whole that even if you're not past beginner projects or use entirely different beadweaving techniques, it's still a great addition to your library. As an entirely book-taught beader of over fifteen years, there is a great variety of projects and each are fun, beautiful, and just the right amount of challenging. Nelson-Smith's colourways are electric and fabulous and make for great conversation starters, and the architectural components are very interchangeable for those past intermediate experience. The instructions are very easy follow and the diagrammes smart and direct...resources in the front are pictures for ease in identifying materials you'll need, and the back has a full glossary that is helpful when working multiple projects at once. I rarely rate a beading book 10/10, but this one definitely earns that distinction. Looking forward to more great projects and insight in the future from Nelson-Smith!

I thought I knew about ropes but there are some great ideas in these pages. I know the stitches and with the different beads and colors you can make amazing things. I recommend this book.

This little booklet is concise and compassionate at the same time, giving detailed description of what to expect as your animal friend nears the end of life, and ways you can help ease their transition. And Ms. Pope certainly knows of what she speaks, as she and her husband have run Brighthaven, a most lovely sanctuary for elderly and special-needs animals, for over 25 years. In that time, they have cared for hundreds of animals with holistic and nutritional support and an abundance of love, honoring them not only in life but in death as well. Even this author seems to assume that nobody wants a purebred, planned for puppy to show or have as a companion, that everyone is going to get a dog from a Rescue. It's too bad: I had to wade through the Rescue oriented material to find the couple of paragraphs applicable to breeders. Sort of an "oh yes, by the way" treatment.

Great reference, but companion website is elusive By P+J I like this book a lot--it's come in handy during fourth year clinical year rotations in veterinary school. I know I will use it a lot when I get to my first job. This series was highly recommended to me by a practicing vet who says he uses them a lot. I also really like the Clinical Veterinary Adviser, 3rd edition. I use both of them. The Clinical Vet Adviser has a really great, easy to use companion website that I use a lot. However, this Five-Minute Consult, although it claims to have a companion website, the website included in the book doesn't seem to exist. It anyone can help me figure out what's going on, I'd appreciate it.

I enjoyed some parts of this book and learnt some new techniques and things to make. I found the blocking section really helpful and like the author had included a chart with different types of yarn and how to block these. The common mistakes and tips that are included in this book are useful such as mistakes like stitching too tightly or making the item too big as you get carried away with it. It gives you some good instructions on how to make some items such as blankets, hats, Christmas decorations, scrunches and handbags. Although I found some parts useful would say that the book is not meant for beginners as the how to read section the plan is written in a complex way and would be hard to understand for a beginner. There are also a few spelling and grammatical errors in this book. But overall it is OK and as long as you have already done some crochet work before or are willing to take further advice then you will be able to understand it well.

By Collin Wu Bought this book for my sister, her feedback was how interesting the book progresses from basic patterning to intermediary to expert patterns, with the different type of possible craft you can make in between these chapters. To her it is like a progress book to understand the each pattern and create each craft like granny squares before moving up to the harder novelty items and handbags. Overall a very decent book to guide you and teach you the art of Crochet weaving, and requires dedication to slowly master the skill. Would recommend it to new weavers that like to understand and take it step by step.

Easy for beginners to follow and some great tips for the more experienced quilters. Her teaching method is great so if she is near you at a show or a quilt guild, I recommend attending.

There's a real gap in material that is well written and useful for dog owners with new babies By carrie moskowitz I've been working with dogs and their people for over 10 years and am always checking out related books that come on the market. There's a real gap in material that is well written and useful for dog owners with new babies.I just finished reading this book - LOVED it and am recommending it left and right. My hat is off to the author or dealing with some really challenging dogs and finding ways to 'make it all work'. I love the way it is written. The combo of personal experience and training help is so brilliant - since most new parents aren't dog trainers and just want it all to be 'fine'.What a perfect shower/new baby gift for anyone with a dog and a baby, or a dog and a kid, etc.

Neither fish nor fowl - it sank.The training aspect was awkwardly shoehorned in, the memoir aspect didn't have enough of a plot to carry it together. I did finish the book, hoping for some sort of payoff, but regret it.

Her training tips are logical and easy to follow. This is a must have for anyone whose child has ANY contact with a dog.

Well Done By Leonard Bernstein I recommend this book because it will stimulate both the new collector and the seasoned veteran - it is a very informative and lasting reference.Beautiful vignettes on old stocks and bonds represent the finest in graphic arts, and this book emphasizes that aspect of collecting in an attractive way. The high quality of color illustrations on almost every page show off a lost art - the engravers' and lithographers' expert skills, complemented by beautiful typography.Interesting commentary and history about each example adds to the value of the book. Many regions of the country are represented. Some of the most beautiful examples of 19th and 20th century stocks and bonds are shown. Mining, railroad, lumber, insurance, oil, banking, Hollywood, baseball, and space stocks are included. There are also some unusual water, printing, cigar, and aerial companies discussed in the book.Enjoying the three sections of this book will take more than one pass, but the reader will be rewarded each time.Leonard B.

Many vignettes on certificates are not available as images anywhere else, and the collection and its presentation is well done and makes a great addition to the scripophily hobby. I live in an area where you have oil lamps and candles for necessity, not ambiance, and I can get the most out of my various non-electric lights thanks to Ron's advice.

I consider it to be a tragedy that Anthony Trollope's works are largely forgotten and overlooked by the reading public. So many well-educated people have never even heard ot him, although his novels are some of the best representatives of what a good novel should be! His beautiful storytelling in "The Way We Live Now" is just another example of Trollope at his best. A master raconteur, his vivid descriptions and cutting satire make this work one of his most controversial (at least at the time) and indeed one of his most respected. Though his longest work, it certainly does not seem long because he keeps the reader on his toes, so much so, that he is dying to know what will happen next. The best thing about the book, in my opinion, is the fact that it is difficult to find a character whom you can like. Each one, and there are many, has one or more particular faults, and we, as the readers, quickly realize that no one is perfect. Even the sympathetic characters are prejudiced at times. This, I believe, is a marked contrast to Dickensian personnages who much of the time are almost too angelic or cruel to be believable. Trollope give us a lesson in true human nature, one that will be very hard for me to forget.

By Mary Whipple Often considered Trollope's greatest novel, this satire of British life, written in 1875, leaves no aspect of society unexamined. Through his large cast of characters, who represent many levels of society, Trollope examines the hypocrisies of class, at the same time that he often develops sympathy for these characters who are sometimes caught in crises not of their own making. Filling the novel with realistic details and providing vivid pictures of the various settings in which the characters find themselves, Trollope also creates a series of exceptionally vibrant characters who give life to this long and sometimes cynical portrait of those who move the country.Lady Carbury, her innocent daughter Henrietta (Hetta), and her attractive but irresponsible son Felix are the family around which much of the action rotates. They are always in need of money and Lady Carbury writes pap novels to support the family (and Felix's drinking and gambling). In contrast to the Carburys, and just as important to the plot, are the Melmottes. Augustus Melmotte, who has come from Vienna under a cloud of financial suspicions, has acquired a huge estate for himself, his foreign wife, and his marriageable daughter. Boorish, but determined to become a leader of society, Melmotte provides moments of humor for the reader, though he is scorned by an aristocracy which is nevertheless beholden to him for his investments.When Paul Montague, a young businessman who has invested in a railroad in America, arrives in town, he finds himself in love with Hetta--and in competition with Roger Carbury for her hand. Felix courts the Melmottes' daughter for her fortune, and she falls in love with him while he dallies with a local domestic worker.Often addressing the reader directly, Trollope fills the novel with action and subplots which illustrate a wide variety of themes, often depicting his characters satirically to illustrate the social, political, and financial ills of the day. Ahead of his time for his depiction of the lively, intelligent woman whose role is defined (and limited) by her social and financial position, Trollope creates a number of resourceful women--and a number who are willing to do almost anything to marry a wealthy man. As is customary in Victorian novels, the good are rewarded here, and the evil are punished, but Trollope's characters, unlike those by Dickens, for example, usually control their own destinies. Broad in scope, thoughtful in construction, complete in its depiction of 1870s' England, filled with wonderful characters, and absolutely engrossing to read, The Way We Live Now is one of the great novels of the nineteenth century. 61 of 64 people found the following review helpful. A 19th Century Tale that Could Have Taken Place in 2008 By Gary L. Misch I bought this book based on a Newsweek recommended reading list. It concerns greed, pursuit of position, and fraud in late 19th century London, but most of the story line reads as if it could have been set in 2008, during the financial scandals on Wall Street. There is even a Bernard Madoff type figure in the story. There is also a BBC/PBS adaptation available on DVD. It is also excellent, but necessarily lacks some of the richness of detail that we find in the book. I don't think of Tollope's books as page turners, but I got to a point where I didn't want to put this down. Perhaps in a few years the material won't seem as fresh, but right now it's very timely.
