2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Terrific book featuring polymer clay and macrame By Cassy Muronaka This is a terrific book. It features two of my great loves: fiber combined with jewelry, and polymer clay beads. I've known and been friends with Sherri for a long time, and over the years I have seen that one of the hallmarks of all of a Sherri Haab book is that no matter how complex the task, it is always explained simply and with great how-to photos. This book is no different. In fact, I would say that it is one of the best illustrated of her publications. The illustrations, whether photographs or drawings, are plentiful, and make a project very simple to follow. For example, each macrame thread has its own color in the drawings, so that you always know what goes where when you are knotting, and that is not always the case with other macrame books.The polymer clay parts of each project are easy to make. It is no small trick for a jewelry design to appear complex and creative, but actually be simple to execute. And that is exactly what is the case here with the polymer clay beads, charms, and pendants. You could buy this book and be happy just for the polymer clay bead and charm instructions alone. One of my favorite designs is "Silver Threads" and "Beyond the Fringe," where Sherri uses lace as a mold to make large "charm" that combines with a macrame project employing metallic threads and cords to make a bracelet. Another one I like, which is very different from anything else I have seen, is "Branching Out, where you employ a small amount of polymer clay to make a flower bead, and then a small branch. These combine with a clear glass bead to form a macrame bracelet knotted with pearls.It is important to point out that the book's design projects also vary widely, and feature an elegance that isn't always the first thing that combines to mind when you think of macrame. You can be be stylish and happy wearing one of these bracelets whether you are 16 or 60.

I own quite a number of Sherri's books and this latest one is so pretty and packed full of new techniques that I can't wait to try out. There are all sorts of interesting ways to cover shaped wire, filigree, and even use doilies in interesting ways. This book is a bead and charm making book combined with a macrame and knotting so you can learn to make entire piece of your complete own design. One of my favorite parts of this book is how Sherri combines lots of different elements such as rhinestones and images with polymer clay, fiber, and paint. For a mixed-media artist who loves to make jewelery this would surely be a great source book.

We co-authored several books together on similar topics, and this takes her special blend of creativity and practicality to a new level. Unlike many projects in how-to books on the market, these have been tested and tried, with clear instructions. All the projects are absolutely do-able with no gaps in the instruction. The combination of fiber and polymer clay is modern and fresh, and the reader will be able to see new possibilities beyond the book with these mediums. Sherri's books are always winners, and this one is no exception.
