"Guaranteed laugh out loud material, Tofield's secret is successfully relating Simon's cat to any cat. Simon's cat is certainly the Snoopy of the cat world."--Chicago Tribune"Simon's Cat Off to the Vet and Other Cat-astrophes is a sweet, humorous look at feline behavior from an author with a thorough understanding of this subject matter....An excellent holiday gift for any cat fancier."--Phyllis O’Beollain, Examiner.com"Simon's Cat: Off to the Vet has dozens of hilarious cartoons of varying lengths....The cartoons are about more than just taking a reluctant cat to the vet (which involves a cardboard box and perfect timing). There are cartoons about destroyed gardens, destroyed bird feeders, destroyed clothes and destroyed furniture. But there are also cartoons about the affection cats can show us, and how we return the love...Every cat lover will love Simon's Cat: Off to the Vet...and Other Cat-astrophes."--About.com"Whether you are 5 or 95, this is sure to draw a smile from you."--Sharon Damon, Examiner.com"My reaction to each new Simon's Cat video or book is the same: YAY!! In this brand-new collection, acclaimed cartoonist Simon Tofield tackles every cat owner’s nightmare: going to the vet. It tells the story of how Simon's Cat seems to instinctively know a trip to the vet is about to happen and the lengths he’ll go to avoid it, while long-suffering Simon is forced to try all kinds of tricks to get him to cooperate. Sound familiar?"--Catster"Witty and wonderful, Simon's Cat: Off to the Vet is a treat for cat lovers or anyone who loves laughter."--Midwest Book Review"Whether you read it straight through or pace yourself with one or two cartoons at a time, this is a book that will cheer the gloomiest day. Add the videos, some snacks, a favorite beverage and a cat on your lap--it's a little vacation in the middle of daily life."--Kings River Life MagazineIn the last five years, Simon's Cat has become a global phenomenon. Star of thirty-nine films, which have been watched over 500 million times, and winner of a dozen major industry awards, Simon's Cat has captured the hearts of a worldwide audience. In this brand-new book we see Simon's Cat face any feline's most dreaded scenario--he's off to the vet. And he's not at all happy about it.Sharing its theme with the first-ever full-color Simon's Cat feature animation, funded by a record-breaking Indiegogo campaign and due to be released alongside the new book, Simon's Cat Off to the Vet...and Other Cat-astrophes is packed with over 240 pages of hilarious new gags and adventures featuring our favorite furry friend and his companions--both old and new.Says Tofield: "Taking my naughty cat to the vet is one of the most requested film ideas from our fans. It was because of this that I started work on a new film and book based on the crazy situations that arise during these trips! A visit to the vet can be quite a stressful time in real life for both cats and their owners, however my goal is to bring out the comedy, and introduce a cast of extra characters for Simon's Cat to meet, as he gets his claws into his new surroundings!"

Review "Going to the vet occupies 49 pages (many in full, vibrant color) in the center of the 240 pages of hilarity. You will laugh until you cry....The vet visit is only part of the hi-jinx in this new book. You’ll laugh at kitty as he deals with the cone of shame and food thievery by the kitten. Several of the vignettes include antics involving the grumpy neighbor and many include various dogs and birds. Those and all the other line-drawn comics are totally relatable if your home is graced by the presence of a cat."--The Cat on my Head"Laugh-out-loud funny like all of Tofield's work, this book features 240 pages of hilarious new gags and adventures featuring Simon's Cat and his friends....This book will delight cat lovers, and makes a great stocking stuffer."--The Concious Cat"Simon's Cat Off to the Vet and Other Cat-astrophes just might relax you the next time you embark on a journey to the vet with your cat(s)!...It is evident from all of the Simon's Cat creations, that they are all labors of love, brilliantly orchestrated by an incredibly talented man, who, like the rest of us, simply LOVES HIS CATS!"--Cat Chat with Caren and Cody"Whether you are already a fan of Simon's Cat or new to him, you are in for a treat with this latest book of Simon's Cat stories and gags."--Cat Talk"Simon's Cat: Off to the Vet...is an energetic romp Tofield renders artfully in pen and ink."--Covered in Cat Hair"This is bound to be a popular gift choice for the holidays whether for the cat owners in your life or for your veterinarian."--PerPETually Speaking"I've spent my whole life with cats, so Mr. Tofield's comics make me smile before I even open the book."--Journey of a BooksellerPraise for Simon's Cat:"Cat lovers will adore this and will nod in recognition of real-life cat behavior; cartoon fans will delight in Tofield's graceful skill in capturing the slinkiness, stealth, and self-absorption of our feline masters."--Publishers Weekly, on Simon's Cat vs. the World"Fans are in for a treat as favorite characters, as well as new faces, run amok in a world full of surprises."--Cat Fancy

There Must Be Fifty Ways to Leave Your Collar By Pop Bop So far this is my favorite Simon's Cat collection.Sure, we get a lot of tricking Simon's Cat into the box, and the Vet visit itself is pretty raucous, but the title promises many other Cat-astrophes, and it makes good on that promise.Among other treats, we get - An extended riff on the horrors of protective collars and all of the ineffective ways there are to remove them. A running series of jokes about Simon's Cat versus the fussy next-door gardener. Some charming bits of turnabout involving the neighborhood birds. And, of course, fishing for moles. Jokes that are set up early in the book sometimes play out later on, so you get more of a continuing "life of..." feel here, and not just a collection of stand alone panels. As a bonus, it's not all just about the Cat. While Simon's Cat is in just about every panel, there's a lot of personality and presence on the part of the regular supporting characters. Kitten, dog, the birds, the neighbor, garden gnome, and badger all figure heavily in the action, and they all get their own bits of jokiness.Surveying all of the action and clever misbehavior and reversals, I figure Cat loses about as much as he wins. That seems fair. But the reader wins all of the time, which is best. So, if you get just one book this year featuring a cat who lives with someone named Simon, put this book on the shortlist.(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-54-days Adobe ecopy of this book in exchange for a candid review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)

By Karen I'd like to thank the author for a copy of the book and the chance to review it through the GoodReads First Reads program.Loved it! My kids got me into this series from watching them on YouTube. This cat (and the new kitten) are exactly like our 2 cats! EXACTLY! I was so excited to get this book. The minute I opened the package, my son grabbed it out of my hands and took off with it. I could hear him laughing in the living room. I finally get it back while I'm making dinner, until my husband gets home. He stands there reading and laughing, NOT helping me with dinner! Yes, the Mom is always last, but hey, at least I finally got to read it. (Before my daughter takes it off to college with her.)Super funny, if you love cats or love someone who loves cats, you will enjoy this book!

I'll have to admit I like the videos better because of the music and the cat's "meows," (therefore the 4 star rating) but there are some great pieces in the book that made me laugh out loud--the recurring mole, the highly agitated neighbor (he of the skinny legs), the cat's ineffective attempts to get birds to fly into his mouth. Typically Simon and all funny.
