By funky_town This one's a real tear jerker and a great continuation of the Raine Stockton series. I downloaded this book early this morning and just finished it. I literally did not want to put it down, even when my cold medicine made me sleepy.While reading the Raine books, I'm usually quite caught up in the story and do worry about some of the characters, but this book made me cry. I mean really. made. me. cry. Not just for a page or two, but in a few places for a few pages each. It tugged at my heartstrings in several places, made me proud of the job that police and other public servants do to protect our country, persons and property and really got to me as a parent and grandparent.It would be so easy to give away the plot line or details that would spoil the suspense for others and I'm trying not to do that. Suffice it to say that Cisco shines in Home of the Brave, as always and of course, he's naughty too as Cisco does so well. Miles and Melanie are in the book again and what would a Raine Stockton book be without Buck? The last several books have made me feel for Buck and Wyn and this one was no different.If you haven't read any of the Raine Stockton series this might not be the one to start with because there isn't quite as much backstory in this as in the others, but after reading one of the earlier books, I'd definitely recommend that you come back and read this one. If you're already familiar with Raine and the gang, scoop this one up and clear your schedule because you won't want to put it down.

By RPL As much as I've enjoyed the series, I wasn't sure I would read another "Raine Stockton" after "Double Dog..." as I had found that installment to be a drab imitation of Ms. Ball's previously stellar work -- a totally unbelievable storyline that disappointed on so many levels. Luckily, I gave the series one more try; "Home of the Brave" is now one of my favorites. It is tightly woven and sparkles with the wit and brittle sarcasm that had endeared Raine to me from the first. The story is taut and plausible and doesn't bog down even when Raine once again is the one to put the final pieces of the puzzle together -- she is the heroine, after all! So kudoes to you, Ms. Ball, for bringing a smile to this dog-and-mystery-lover's face!

Sure, I knew everything would be okay in the end, but you stay in the moment and go with the flow of the story, don't you? I didn't see the identity of the chief bad guy coming. Good surprise. I like the new character, Jolene. Not everybody has to be all nicey-nice, and some interpersonal conflict makes for interesting plots. Speaking of which, I am now officially tired of the flip-flopping between then-husband and now-boyfriend in Raine's affections. Pick one, honey, and get on with it. I'm definitely gong to read the next one in the series.
