By Dave McGhee Pro: I get the whole workshop Companion Series and only take up the space of a DVD on the shelf.Con: Oh where do I start? How about the poor way to brows and read this series. Basically this DVD is a medium quality PDF version of the original books. It's like they scanned them in made a PDF and then burned a CD-ROM to match the dated material in the book. Yes the material is dated, but these books were written in the 1980's and 90's.The author Nick Engler is a very knowledgeable dude and I loved the old Shopsmith video series he used to do as I am a Shopsmith owner and the book uses some Shopsmith equipment to do various projects. He even had a website (which is very outdated,not finished and seems to be living in perpetuity of under construction) that complimented this book series. The books were great and I have a couple. I wish I would have bought the whole series of books rather than spend the money on this very user-unfriendly DVD-ROM. Really ROM is still used? Come on.The DVD-ROM is useful and the cheapest and now the only way to get the out of print book series. But I suggest you comb the interwebs for the book versions of the series and lever the DVD-ROM off your list. It is just too hard to read and use on the computer. The search feature is lacking good returns and the PDF files remind me of being at work and reading through hundreds of paged of data just to find what you are interested in.I'm glad this exists as it give the younger woodworkers an opportunity to see some quality stuff and basic skills at a value price. But a bit more work on bring this series into the future would have been worth it. Buy it or don't I;d rather have the books, but the DVD will do.
