Terrific Starter Book for Small Space Gardeners By Wendie Owens When I was growing up, nearly everyone on our block had some sort of garden in their backyards. My Mom was the local expert on growing tomatoes, but she was a complete failure at growing carrots, which was a real disappointment to me since I loved carrots and disliked tomatoes with all my heart. My mother, in her nineties now, would have really appreciated this impressive and informative little book on how to grow gardens in small spaces if only it had been available back in the day.The gardening bug bit me a few years ago, and this year, we have been somewhat successful in growing a few different types of vegetables on our patio. Had I read Alexis Boyd's book sooner, I'm quite sure that our mediocre success could have been outstanding had we not left out one of the primary recommended ingredients in our planting mix, rough vermiculites, I believe they were called. We did manage to grow some delicious chard in a sack of organic compost.One of my favorite ideas in the book was using stacks of old tires for containers in growing root vegetables like sweet potatoes. Very useful book especially if you are just starting out on your gardening adventures.

I’ve been wanting to start growing my own small space garden but I just haven’t felt that I had all the necessary knowledge to do so in a satisfying manner. With this book, however, I now feel that I have some really solid information to go reference back to.In reading this book, the reader can expect to learn some invaluable tips and strategies on how to start a small space garden, the various benefits of doing so, and the most effective methods to go about setting it all up. Moreover, you will get a solid repertoire of knowledge on how to prepare soil and plant mixes, how to care for vegetables depending on the season, how to select the most appropriate tools and equipment and how to protect your precious newly grown plants.A solid and well-researched book!

Alexis Boyd shares her knowledge of small-scale gardening in a way that is both informative and practical. She proves that a lack of space is no excuse not to garden. Small Space Garden is a great step towards growing your own herbs and vegetables and the feeling of accomplishment that comes along with it.
