About the Author
Brian D. Coleman, MD, divides his time between Seattle and New York. His articles have appeared in magazines ranging from Old House Journal, where he is the West Coast editor; to Period Living in the U.K. Brian is the author of seven books on the decorative arts, including the recent titles Farrow & Ball and Cottages.
Erik Kvalsvik is a photographer of architecture and interiors. His clients include major national magazines and museums as well as leading architects and interior designers. He has been the principal photographer of more than a dozen books, including Barry Dixon Inspirations. He lives in Washington, D.C.

Leta Austin Foster's attention to detail and those special touches elevate her work to the realm of extraordinary. It's what all designers should aspire to. As beautiful as her rooms are, they are also welcoming. One wants to settle in with a long sigh and be cozy in the cushy comfiness of the sofas and chairs and just look around and appreciate each room. Her use of colour is masterful, but never overwhelming. No sterile bleached banality here. No greiged-out cookie cutter sameness seen recently in every design and shelter magazine. Her rooms exude personality and warmth and are truly beautiful. Thank you, Leta!
