Too many bracelets By crafty First, let me say I purchased this book, and did not get a discount.This review is not based on the actual instructions, but on other factors.This should be called "Chain Mail Bracelet Elegance."Only 2 pendants?Should have had more pendants, earrings, and necklaces.Top heavy with bracelets.For basic information about chain mail, the author refers you, to her previous 2 books.This is not a book for beginners.Because of this, I seriously thought of giving it 3 stars;

By Jean Baldridge Yates Chain Mail Elegance, Jewelry Projects with Crystals, Pearls, and More, offers thirty plus great reasons to break out to your pliers and treat yourself to some beautiful chain mail! This is jewelry designer-author Sue Ripsch's third book on the subject of chain mail. In her latest offering, chain mail, a timeless favorite, delights us with its remarkable beauty as interpreted by Sue. Dressed up in crystals, glass, beads, and pearls, it exudes excitement and elegance. The jump rings which compose the chain mail themselves get the royal treatment as well, when the author varies a number of her designs by adding twisted or colored rings to the mix. These amp up the impact by fascinating the eye with new texture or glamorous mixed hues. Each new project found in this book makes for a delightful learning experience. The reader discovers all sorts of new ways to create and personalize gorgeous and wearable chain mail pieces.The thirty projects are diverse and outstanding. Some come with really nice variations. Each of them reminds us just what it is we love about creating with wonderful jump rings! Shining bright, they are mesmerizing to weave, giving off a feeling of strength coupled with beauty. Captivating and mysterious, they speak to us of the past, and yet are always in fashion.In her introduction, Sue discusses the specific focus of Chain Mail Elegance. Color, texture and sparkle are the big players incorporated into the designs in Chain Mail Elegance. If you love textural jewelry or flashes of color scintillatingly combined with silver, gold and niobium, this book has your name on it.Although primarily intended for intermediate and advanced designers, everyone will be able to follow the well-written instructions and plentiful step out photos.The project photographs are sumptuous in their beauty. Exploring the more introductory, earlier books by the author will assist a beginner, or help designers brush up on technique. It is worth it, as this original, glorious collection is one you will flip for!Any jewelry you decide to make for yourself from Chain Mail Elegance will end up becoming your favorite new signature piece. If people follow you when you are out shopping wearing one of these stunning pieces, get used to it. Chain mail has that " special something", and every one of these projects is loaded with it!In the section titled: "The Elegance of Sparkle", the focus is on adding crystals, pearls, beads, rondelles, and stones to chain mail designs. There are sixteen projects to choose from. Bracelets, pendants, earrings and sets are represented. Each offering is smashing. If you are as blown away by the bracelet on the cover of this book as I was, find it in this section. It's the second project: the "Ladder in Mail Bracelet". As the author says, "Choose round crystals in any color you like for a bracelet full of color, texture and sparkle that is very comfortable to wear. It has it all!"Indeed it does! It emotes a sensual beauty. The balance between the rings and the accent crystals is perfect. Over and over in Chain Mail Elegance, this balance is evident. The author never sacrifices good taste for flash. Instead, you get magnificent designs fit for a queen, which can also be worn anywhere you like, for any occasion.Wait until you see the sophisticated "Cosmic Eye" bracelet and earrings. Once again crystal is a player in the design. This is a sleek and fascinating project which uses different sizes of silver jump rings and Swarovski Cosmic Rings. The instructions for this matched set provide you with a lovely bracelet and drop earrings with tons of punch. The flash here is more smoldering. It is terrifically chic and urban.The "Celtic Pendant", with its centerpiece bead of hematite, surrounded by sterling chain mail you weave into a flower shape, is also very pretty. It makes a great, faster-to-complete project, as the focus is on the centerpiece. There are instructions for the chain accompanying the pendant as well as some great tips from the author. Simple yet fascinating, and so pretty!The second part of the book, replete with fourteen projects, is titled "The Elegance of Color and Texture". As the author says when introducing this section, "Jump rings can come in many different shades. Yellow gold-filled rings, rose gold-filled rings, and niobium colored rings add interest...The silver, rose, and yellow rings can also be made from twisted wire, which gives the chain texture."What a treat the reader has in store, in this section! I love the attitude of these fantastic designs. The "Hugs & Kisses" Set is a great example of color and texture coming together to make a bracelet and earring set you would be proud show off as you lunched at the latest new restaurant in New York City.The silver jump rings in a smaller gauge, make up the "X" (kiss) pattern, while the larger gold twisted rings form the "O"s (the hugs). It's all attached together with plain golden rings and caught up with a divine modern silver clasp. With its matching earrings, it is jaw dropping and exquisite. An instant classic!I also loved the "Stretchable Nested Bracelet", which sports silver rings woven with rubber rings in a beautiful blue color. It has no clasp, as, when woven following the instructions, you end up with a fabulous and fine stretchy bangle anyone would adore. The blue and silver bring out the best in each other. This bracelet is not just novel, it is great!The "Double Vision" Bracelet is one more project with tons of appeal for any lover of chain mail. It expresses all that is special about chain mail, with simplicity and intricacy woven into every link. I love the plain silver and gold tones of this bracelet, although the author also suggests a cool sounding alternative: "exchange the yellow gold-filled rings for twisted rings that give texture, sparkle, and shine".If you have put down your pliers for a while, and not been making chain mail, this book is for you. If you have never tried chain mail, this book is for you. As previously mentioned, the author has two other, earlier works for beginning learners which will help with chain mail technique. However don't pass up this glorious design book. It is by far one of the prettiest chain mail jewelry books I have ever seen. It will bring every reason we love chain mail right to the fore. It reminds us that nothing replaces beautiful chain mail except more beautiful chain mail!Chain Mail Elegance, Jewelry Projects with Crystals, Pearls, and More by Sue Ripsch is simply smashing. It is solid in technique and delivers wonder and magic in its designs!
