JEAKINS LOVED every page of WAR AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD:TWILIGHT EMPIRE BY IAN JAMES ROSS. I got to step back in time starting in AD 298 and follow the then a very young Roman soldier by the name of AURELIUS CASTUS has fought and helped win a battle against a savage tribe. We then are able to follow Castus's life as first a Roman soldier then prisoner then, well I guess you best read the book to find out what!I found myself emerged in the plot as the passage of time in the book moved page after page after page. Mr Ross has taken a period in our world history and teleported us to that time and place to read the events as they unfolded. I loved it and if you are a historical fiction fan like I am this is the book for you.I received this book from goodreads in exchange for a review. and I am very very glad I did. This ones on my re read list.

This book really kept my interest throughout By Paul Ankener A real page turner that sheds light on a period in Roman-occupied Britain about which little has been written. Excellent pacing. This book really kept my interest throughout. A good plot line woven with an excellent blend of historical detail and speculative fiction.
4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. excellent historical references By Joyce excellent historical references. one of those books that truly place the reader in the time period . one of only a few authors who could capture rome's very few misadventures in britannia. lots of politics just like in todays armed service.anyway go read this book if you like great roman historical fiction . well written and narrated with good main character development
