August Fire, by Kasey Riley

Review Reviewed By Tracy A. Fischer for Readers' FavoriteI really enjoyed August Fire. It's a fast-paced and suspenseful thrill ride, with a hefty dose of romance thrown in to boot. Stephanie and Doyle are well-drawn characters. Doyle is that drool-worthy type of hunk that says "Ma'am," and Stephanie is quite a bit impetuous, and they'll both feel real to you. Author Kasey Riley is very skilled at writing realistic scenes that are vividly drawn. August Fire would appeal to any reader who loves romances, mysteries or reads filled with suspense. The only advice I would have for a reader is to be sure you have enough time set aside to read this entire book in one sitting, because once you start it, you won't want to put it down! Kasey Riley shows great promise as an author, and I certainly hope she continues her work in this vein. I, for one, will certainly watch for her next release with great anticipation.

From the Author I truly enjoyed writing this novel. Several of the interactions have been taken either from personal experiences or tales told to me by friends. I have a friend who worked for many years in the canyons of California rescuing stock and her tales gave me the idea of using a wild land fire in this book. A friend of my husbands experienced food poisoning...so I added that to the tale in a different form. If the reader can picture some of the conflicts between Stephanie and Doyle, it makes them come alive...and who hasn't ever had an experience of getting goosed by an overly friendly dog? I hope the readers will let their imaginations run with Stephanie and Doyle, forgiving each for the few missteps and foul tempers they show. Life is about making allowances and accepting others in fiction and day to day living. Enjoy this book in the spirit it was presented. Thanks for your support.

About the Author With over twenty years of horse ownership and small town living to her credit, Kasey Riley (Kim) brings a wealth of knowledge to her novels. Her love of the trail, outdoors, and rural living give color and vibrancy to her books. This realism has drawn many readers to her novels. She strives to make readers see through the eyes of her characters and imagine themselves enmeshed in the plot. The fictional town of Riverview, Colorado is the setting for her stories. The town is full of characters, each with a story to tell or who may become either victim or villain. Small town, rural living brings them together and the rugged Colorado countryside creates the backdrop for the action. She plans on each book being a stand-alone novel that can be read in any sequence without the reader missing details needed for the story. Her mind sees every news article as a possible story line, and every trail ride as a possible setting for the next crime or mystery. Needless to say, she loves the alone time on the trail to work her way through the next plot and create new characters. When not writing or riding, she enjoys reading a wide variety of genre novels and sounding out new plots on her husband of 40+ years. Together, they care for a large assortment of animals on their 13 acre hobby farm in Southeastern Oklahoma.

Doyle is ex military, a man who says "ma'am" and grins when something strikes his fancy. Stephanie decided early in life that she had been disappointed by men and can live on her own just fine. Perhaps she didn't realize what she was missing till Doyle stumbled into her life...well...more like she stumbled into his! It does seem as if one mishap follows another in this story for sure! But through it all, they are there for each other, first as friends and then in the end...as a couple in love and working it all out. I would recommend this story. It is an easy read and I didn't put it down till I had to :) ***Reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock.

Doyle is a man who says “ma’am” and I LOVE that. Nothing like a true gentleman to get make your mouth water right? I also really liked Stephanie, she was a very good main character. Together they are just amazing, and they mesh so well! It does seem as if one bad thing follows another in this story but they are there for each other, as friends at first and then as a couple in love and working it out.I would recommend this story. It is an easy read and once I picked it up I didn’t put it down unless I had to!*I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review.*

The plot and the setting were awesome! I grew up in a small town, so I know what to look for when authors try their hand at describing it. The amount of knowledge that had to have gone into this novel is staggering; from the dangers of wildfires to everyday ranch living. So, those parts I really did like, however, it was the characters that drove the nail into the coffin.Stephanie drove me INSANE! She seemed childish, hotheaded, and downright childlike most of the time, which I felt was such a drawback for the novel. Instead of acting her age, 90% of the time she sounded like a whiney teenager. So that was a pretty big turnoff for me. Then to top that off, the way she treats Doyle was terrible. Basically from the beginning, he was always there saving her, which I liked. However, I didn't like how little credit and how immature Stephanie always seemed to treat him. It was like he was never good enough.I think that if Doyle and Stephanie had had a better connection, with more maturity and stability, I would have liked this novel more. Other than that, it was a great read. The suspense and twists were extremely interesting and I was always wondering what was going to come next. I think for the right reader, this book would be perfect. For me, it just didn't do it.
