By Tom in WY This second book of the Whicher series takes place 20 years before “An American Outlaw,” and is about Marshal John Whicher’s first case as a rookie. And the case is a doozy. “An American Kill” features a complex murder investigation by Whicher (in contrast to a chase story in the first book). As is the case with most whodunits, there are a lot of characters to keep track of in this book, so you probably shouldn’t plan on reading just a few pages right before fatigue or sedation drags you into a nap or heavy slumber. I found that when I was alert and committed to reading more than just a few pages at a time, I was hooked and reeled into the story.I particularly like Stonehouse’s writing because he keeps his characters and story lines real, and he is masterful at writing in the first person. In “An American Kill” Marshal Whicher is the narrator throughout (in “An American Outlaw” narration is split between Whicher and one of the guys on the lam). I continue to look forward to more works by this author.

By STACIE I read An American Outlaw by John Stonehouse and loved it! It was so well written and so realistic! I love thrillers and this one kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end! Very unpredictable! I was really anticipating An American Kill and I was not disappointed! Set 20 years before the first book, Whicher is a brand new US Marshal, fresh back from the Gulf War, and is investigating a multiple murder case down on the Texas/Mexico border. This book grabbed me from the beginning and held me until the very end. Stonehouse specializes in capturing the exact language and dialog of the Southwest Texas people and I can actually hear them talking in my head as I'm reading. This book was extremely well written and the characters were very believable. Again, it was very unpredictable and I had no idea which way it would go until the very end! Well done John Storehouse! I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

By Kindle Customer The brand new Deputy Marshall believes in the law, has a heart for victims and is determined to solve cases that converge into one, even against orders to lay off certain areas that involve corruption and even, finally, having to give over his badge and gun. But, as confused as he may be in some things, he is true to his goal all the way to the verdicts.
