This book was filled with information ranging on date differences and activity differences between a variety of Dwarfs and between Dwarfs and Syrians, etc. I really learned something new which is saying something because I studied all about hamsters during the course of my lifetime. The book covers an introduction to the dwarf hamster and how they differ from other rodents sold at pet stores. Then, the author presents the history of the Dwarf hamster inclusive of each history for Chinese, Roborovski, Russian, Winter White, and Campbell's Dwarf hamster breeds. The author continues with the physical character differences: vision, hearing, smell, determining gender, personality/behavior. The author further describes common concerns: how many to purchase, how they interact with kids or other pets, allergies, and pros/cons. There is what to expect when owning these types of hamsters and how to tell if they are healthy (even to how the teeth look - talk about detail). There is recommendation to transporting the pet, and transitioning to pet's new home. Are you getting tired yet because there are 5 more pages of table of content. HA! No-joke! The author even talks about lighting and humidity not to mention diet and how to recognize signs of illness coming on and recommended aid to prevention or when to see the vet. There's of course the breeding section for those who want baby hamsters running around. Finally, there are misc. topics including what breeds are susceptible to diabetes, answering frequent questions, and even listing breeders in the US, Canada, and UK plus some added websites to view. My hands are tired from writing all that so you can see it is a boat-load of information. Information is found in the book for about 90 pages: the rest is content table, glossary, breeders list, etc. I'd say that it is for 10 years old and up type of reading (few photos).
