1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A really great book for the intermediate gardener By Katarína King I loved this. It introduced me to a wonderful, effective gardening technique. This book tells you what companion gardening is and why it is beneficial to your garden. There is some technical discussion on the scientific processes involved, but all jargon is explained clearly for the layman and therefore very easy to understand.It also tells you Which plants are "companions" to each other and how they benefit each other, which combinations are recommended and are not recommended. It's important to note that you can't just mix and match random plants; some types of plants are not compatible with others. There are also some recipes for organic bug sprays, tea for aphid infestation and such. Very, very useful stuff. I'm an advocate of organic ingredients. Overall, I'd say this is a really great book for the intermediate gardener. It will change the way you garden for the better.

I whizzed through it during take-off on a four-hour flight - was finished before we reached cruising altitude. Even so, the information was beyond basic and provided no new insights about companion gardening. Yes, I realize it is titled "as a practical guide for beginners." However, even beginners deserve more than what is written in this self-proclaimed guide, particularly when so many other tried-and-true books are already on the market. Had there been a shred of new insight or information, this book could have been redeemed.Mel Bartholomew's "Square Foot Gardening" would make for a much better guide on how to begin companion planting in the garden. Readers interested in this subject should also look at Louise Roitte's "Carrots Love Tomatoes" or "Roses Love Garlic." All are suitable for a beginner and worth what you spend on the book.I'd like to know how to get my $2.99 back as is stated in the book's description.

Loving the way you can grow your own companion plants in your backyard By Ruby Loves Adventure I like the idea of this book - it's how common garden plants can all be grown together in your garden to help them all grow together. I love the plants that she mentioned: they can enable you to have a more self sustaining lifestyle by growing your own fruit and veg, and even throw in a few flowers on the side, and best of all, you can grow these in your own backyard (if you have a house with a yard, that is)I'll definitely keep some of the tips mentioned in this book in mind when we eventually move out of our apartment and into a proper house - but that won't probably be for another couple of years.
