About the Author
A former preschool art teacher, Marion T. Nichols is renowned for her ability to transform ordinary sheets of paper into unique snowflake patterns. For more than 15 years, Nichols has taught classes and sold her self-published books of snowflake designs at the City Museum in St. Louis, where she also manages The Snowflake Room. She has also shared her techniques with various groups in the St. Louis area, as well as at the 2013 Applied Brilliance conference.

This is one of those books that you look at and think how the heck did the author/artist come up with this? But she did come up with a unique technique for putting a clever spin on the paper snowflakes we all have made. The projects are rated for difficulty, one to four snowflakes. I have started with the tear-out sheets in the back of the book and have had success with a starfish and a salamander. My only complaint is that the cover shows dazzling silvery snowflakes and the paper provided is sort of dull. But good for practice, and I guess I will have to go get some shiny paper to make the special ones.

These snowflakes are so unique, well they say every snowflake is, but these have a fun puzzle/Rorschach test quality. At first they are just pretty but then you look to find the animal in them. They are folded in an interesting way to create these animal snowflakes. My first snowflake I tried was one of my favorite animals- the penguin. The directions are very clear and I had total success! I will be making lots more to decorate with and use in art/mixed-media projects.

Gorrell We had the privilege of meeting Marion (the author) at the City Museum in Saint Louis. We were entranced by her amazing designs and also her terrific stories. In a museum full of fun things to see, I had to practically drag my kids away from Marion's room. I'm hoping we can create our own magic at home with this book!
