Review "Its strength is its simplicity." - Richard Lloyd Parry, The Times "All hail the new decluttering queen Marie Kondo, whose mess-busting bestseller has prompted a craze for tidying in homes across the world ... one proper clear out is all you need for the rest of your life." - Good Housekeeping "[It is] enough to salute Kondo for her recognition of something quietly profound: that mess is often about unhappiness, and that the right kind of tidying can be a kind of psychotherapy for the home as well as for the people in it." - The Time

About the Author MARIE KONDO started reading housewives' magazines from the age of five and loved the order and beauty of the well-organised spaces she saw in them. Then, from the age of 15 she started studying tidying seriously. She started with her own bedroom and then moved onto her siblings'. Today she runs a highly successful business in Tokyo helping clients transform their cluttered homes into spaces of beauty, peace and inspiration.

If you read this book you'll be missing the "Magic" and the "Life Changing" parts of the original book By Jane in Milwaukee Please forgive a long review: this book makes me sad and mad.I just looked at Marie Kondo's ORIGINAL book:The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing with 224 pagesand was interested to see the number of reviews is up to 4,155. I watched it take off like wildfire since its release in October last year and purchased it myself. I devoured the book in a couple days. It brought such a fresh perspective that is easily grasped by people like me who have struggled all their lives with disorganization. We're never TAUGHT how to declutter!! No classes in school on any level. And your folks just told you to go clean your room. If you're among the naturally organized, it's the greatest gift in the world.Me? Not so lucky.I have purchased probably a dozen books on clutter and organization. Once I read Marie Kondo's book, I gave them all away. I have cleared up my house. I still have pockets of clutter and go back and forth with piles building up here or there but when I need it, I read Kondo's book and all the notes and underlining I've written in it since the first read and get inspired to jump back into the fray and let go of stuff that doesn't give me joy. I have given away half my clothes. Whereas my closet used to be a disaster and you couldn't see the floor or the back wall, now I can walk inside and see every stitch of clothes hanging it. Whereas I used to not answer the door, now I let people drop by and have thrown parties for as many as 2 dozen people.I have preordered this:Spark Joy: An Illustrated Master Class on the Art of Organizing and Tidying Up with 256 pagesset for release this December. It looks like it will be most helpful edition of the AUTHOR'S book for me because I'm a visually oriented person. If you click on the author's name on one of her actual books, you will see that these are the only two she has written--but it's a long list because of the number of foreign (including her native Korean) translations the world over. But when I put the author's name in the search above, the list that popped up made me sick: this book and a whole bunch of others are knock-offs to make a buck. Look at the description of this book above. The final paragraph reads:*Please Note: The original is a wonderful and well-written book which is short and concise in itself. So if you have the time, we highly recommend you read the original. If you simply don't have the time or would like to quickly revise the main concepts, this summary will serve you well. We wrote this summary due to the large amount of requests we received for it!"If you read the "executive" 52-page summary in order to avoid the "Incessant Filler Traps" you will not be able to put ANY of the original magical parts of the book to ANY use.Look...there's a reason Marie Kondo's real book has about 4 times the number of pages here: when the "gist" of a book is the inspiration it gives, you have to read the real McCoy. Look at the "LOOK INSIDE!" feature of this and the real book. All the same 5 chapters. Your problem will be that the life-changing part has been squeezed out. This is the Cliff Notes--maybe pithy but dry as a bone and inaccessible. If you think you can rely on a summary or abridged version of War and Peace or any other great literary masterpiece and come out with the rich experience the author's work provides, you're sadly mistaken. (I have a BA in English...tried to do this and failed!)I have been reviewing books on Amazon for 6 years. I have read many threads in the Top Reviewers forum that challenge the authenticity of reviews in a number of books. Sometimes you can tell if the wildly favorable reviews have been generated by the publisher or author by the claims in the reviews: sheesh, one reviewer says her mother was cured of HOARDING by reading this summary. Sheer nonsense.I apologize to reviewers here who actually read this book and actually got a lot out of it without reading the real thing. I have never contested the validity of a majority of a reviews of a book before. But from what others tell me, you can learn a lot from reviewers' profile pages: if they've reviewed only this book or only a flurry of books within a month's time (or within a week or even a day), it may be that the review is fabricated or, in the very least, shallow. Here's a tip: of the 21 5-star reviews and 3 4-star reviews, do you find a single one that gives an actual and practical testimonial like mine? No: it's all gushing. If you read my review of the real book or any other of the most helpful ones, you'll see specific examples of life changes that feel like magic, thus the title. The few who are really honest here say they're now motivated to buy the real book. The sole "negative" 3-star reviewer warns you that this book costs about the same as the real book.I suggest you skip this nonsense, buy the real Marie Kondo book, get the value and inspiration inside, make your own "executive" list if you feel the need ... but get rid of your junk.

By Alex Riches I love to discover new things on the market and then I stumbled upon this original gem during some intense research: the result surprised me.In fact this ebook exposes the "executive summary" as the main methodology to research, write and publish a book in an alternative way by summerizing & decluttering all unuseful concepts, words, etc. to ensure a real dense and meaningful reading experience. Also, this work methodology goes very well with decluttering your life as the main theme of this ebook. In fact, learning to tidyng up your home is becoming more & more relevant as our lives increase in high-tech complexity and the author is able to both educate and guide you though the process of decluttering your private envinronment in the best way possible. But you have to make a mindset shift, as the author explain in the preface. So, from discovering why you're not a tidy person to learn how to discard all the unnecessary items, and from choosing the right category to fit in every item to finally store your old and new things this becomes quickly even a powerful metaphore to change ourselves in a deep manner....And I loved the chapter about making the tidying a special event and this is a game changer to shift your mindset completely.Just a final comment: I realized I have given myself a super gift by purchasing this guide and I think you'll feel something similar no matter what your aim is practical and/or psychological. Very good Job!
