Let me tell you a bit about the author: About 20 years ago I bought an 1834 house with a oil-fired Utica steam boiler and no heat. I found Dan Holohan's first book "The Lost Art of Steam Heat" and stared at the book and my plumbing and drew pictures and finally called the Utica boiler company. They said what can we help you with? And I said I've a Utica xxx boiler and one pipe steam heat and I don't think it's plumbed in properly. And they replied "They hardly ever are." So Utica sent me the installation instructions (and lots of other stuff) and I replumbed the whole thing myself. Now the instructions were useful BUT from Dan's first book I learned WHY I was doing certain things. That is a whole different experience. Anybody interested in hydronics (heating or cooling with liquids) needs the original PLUS this. Those are your bookends. And when folks ask you what you want for your birthday you can fill the space between with all his others. Now I should not be telling you all this for free and Dan says I should charge about $500 for these thoughts . . . but you will have to read this latest book to find out why.

By Dennis Foley If you know Dan, either from trade shows ( he and I stood together and watched the steam boiler with glass piping surge ) or from his books and classes, you will already know that this is a great read. I have them all and have bought multiple copies of some of his steam heating books to give away. He's always been generous in helping us unknowns to get better at our work. We aren't unknown to Dan.Dan is a regular guy with a lot of curiosity that he spent his life satisfying about all things hydronic. Buy it and read it you will not be disappointed. If you aren't into hydronic heat, it's still an interesting autobiography centers around his work life, and fun to read.
