1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. cannot recommend By JohnLA i returned this after getting about 10 pages in. i am wondering if this has been translated from another language? the writing was mistake filled and extremely general.it was so general that i felt i was reading one of my high school student's papers. the author made some very bold statements without giving specific credit to the studies he/she claimed regarding the findings. weird for a 'medical' book/paper.i am very interested in music therapy. this was going to be my first book on the subject.i will look elsewhere.

I appreciated the explanations of the different types of music therapy used. It is missing examples of these techniques are used clinically. Lastly, when using text to speech it reads the sources under the pictures so it would be nice to have a index of the credits rather than in the text.

Take an Australian Journey By Lyn I was excited to receive a review copy of Jackie Parry’s new story “A Standard Journey.” I read and thoroughly enjoyed her previous book “Of Foreign Build,” and this highly anticipated adventure is the next offering from this remarkable writer.A Standard Journey is set in Australia and takes the reader, by horseback, through The Bicentennial National (BNT) recreational trail. As with her previous book Jackie’s plans were never going to be straight forward.Accompanied by her husband, Noel, she began the journey burdened down with gear, food and a dream to see this part of her adopted country by horseback. Along the way they met unique individuals, forged friendships, gained knowledge and suffered bruises.Through her writing Jackie Parry opens up a window to the emotional and stressful life of the adventure that lay ahead of them.Jackie Parry’s writing is, as always, professional and honest. By Glen Barrera I really enjoyed this book, about the author and her husband and their dream to pack-saddle Australia’s Bicentennial National Trail. Selling everything, reading-up, and pouring through equipment catalogues they make their purchases and plans, until all they needed…were the horses.I’ve ridden horses, love them, but never really knew them until I read this book. From the beginning, when the “boys” (all rescued ex-trotter Standardbreds) are introduced and their personalities, temperaments and quirks noted, I realized this story would be different. It wasn’t long before they became, to me, five mischievous boys out with their parents on a holiday road-trip (Neddy pushed me! Did not! Did to!). But then, these boys weighed a half-ton each, sometimes had a mind of their own, and couldn’t grasp the concept of “time outs.”This story is well written with an appealing honesty. It made me laugh, as well as dab at my eyes. It’s about change: how five horses, once timid and easily spooked from a life at the racetrack, can become strong and courageous with love and attention; how two people, through the most adverse conditions, will do everything they can to keep their “family” healthy and safe. A Standard Journey is a must-read for animal lovers and/or those with a taste for a truly great adventure.

She is truly a Mom who loves her cats and finds great joy caring for them. It gives each one their own identity and life story. For my great-grand daughter it shows the different personalities and habits all animals portray.I liked it because it gave a realistic life of the cats. The joy and the sorrow in loving and raising a pet. I would recommend the book to all cat lovers who considered themselves Mom's or Dad's to their feline friends.

I think it is a great book. It is a little difficult to read, but only because embroidery is such a visual and hands-on activity. I love how it goes into specific details as to how to make variations of different stitches. The pictures are black and white. The reading and examples of stitches are fairly easy to follow if you study the information and have some experience with embroidery. I do not have a lot of experience, I've done it off and on all my life (49 years); this book has made my work better quality and more attractive. I feel like I know what I'm doing, so I'm not embarrassed for others to look at.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I smile when I see this described as a new book: published in 1900 By Jane in Milwaukee This book is 115 years old. The reason it's still so fresh is that it both gets down to the basics and does something hardly any other needlework book has done since: it shows what the stitchery looks like from the back side. Beyond how the stitches strike your eye, you know you're doing it right if you can replicated the back...you can see how to start and finish off threads too.It is a 262 page book with a very nice index, Table of Contents and fully Descriptive List of Illustrations which number 94. These are all PHOTOGRAPHS of finished embroideries which are superb; the additional line-drawings of the stitch diagrams are not included among the 94 photos. And "descriptive" means explaining everything in the photo from the fabric to the fibers to the image of the embroidery (i.e. what the project is) to all the stitches to the era and culture it's from to where it was located at the time of publication in 1900. With the exception that they're b&w, just these photos are remarkable...and color printing was simply not available a century ago. The majority of pictured embroideries were in the possession of "Mrs. Lewis F. Day" or at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.There are 30 chapters most of which cover specific techniques including stitches of canvaswork, chain, herring-bone, feather and oriental, ropes and knots, satin, darning, laid-work, couching--including goldwork--applique, cut-work, quilting and raised work. Then outlining, shading, creating figures and religious needlework are covered. Such detail: there is a several-page discussion of which way stitches should lie based on the effect you're trying for. I make a rough count of about a hundred stitches that are extremely well laid out. The final chapter is the 5-page A Word To The Worker which is guidelines as applicable and accessibly written as anything published within the last couple years. Compared to the 800 or so needlework books in my library.One thing to know: when the authors titled this book, they were serious: the very last paragraph in this book challenges us:"One last word as to thoroughness in needlework. Those who have really not time to do much, should be satisfied with simple work. The desire to make a great show with little work is a snare. Ladies make protest always, "There is too much work in that." Well, if they are not prepared to work, they may as well give themselves up to their play. There was no labour shirked in the old work illustrated in these pages; and nothing much worth doing was ever done without work, hard work, and plenty of it. Should that thought frighten folk away, they may as well be scared off at once. Art can do very well without them."

So far, this has been one of my favorite.Rather than sorting by room or area, this book demands that you sort by type of article -- so, basically, gather all your clothes in one place first, then pick up each one separately, see how it feels/speaks to you; if it sparks joy, you keep it; if not, you thank it for the work or lesson it gave you & release it to go somewhere else. She has a specific order for going through the belongings in your home ranging from those that will be less emotional (clothing) until you get to the hard stuff/more emotional (personal mementos such as letters & photos).If you're looking for a kinder/gentler approach to decluttering (maybe one that might work more w/ the 'memory lane' folks), you may want to check this book and give it a try.

The book reads like the standard fare and basically contends that "if you get your life and home organized the universe will respond". The book is well organized if not a bit redundant. Some of the tips are welcome but after the first chapter, I found that I was ready to abandon the book for more interesting ideas. I am a organization junky and am always looking for help making my small home larger and more accessible. However, thus far I have yet to encounter any ideas that are unique of life-changing. But, as a basic organizational how to, it is a pretty descent manual.

Now I will have a much bigger picture of how I can make our house clutter-free!This is such an informative book. It has so many tips and suggestions on how I can achieve the goal of decluttering. With my so busy schedule, I almost don't have time for cleaning anymore and all the help I can get in maximizing my time is very much appreciated. This is what this book provided me. I especially like the discussions on one item a day policy, the closet hanger experiment, the four boxes technique, and the twelve by twelve by twelve challenge.Although the book is an easy read, one will also appreciate the way the tips are presented here--practical and very useful ones. I will certainly consider every bit here as I declutter too. The facts about Minimalism have also opened up my mind about pursuing it.I'm glad I downloaded and read this book. I will definitely use the strategies and recommend this book to everyone!

To make the pamphlet over 20 pages- and it is a pamphlet- triple and quadruple spacing was used between the one to two sentence paragraphs.Counting the initial page as a page is a joke. There are no plans for how to build a coop. This thing reads like a Cliffnote of a Cliffnote of chicken keeping for idiots. No mention of any breed types for eggs or meat birds. No recommendation on feed- just feed them.I could get more information from a flyer from the local FFA. I'm going to see if I can return this- there is no way it's worth $8.95, maybe $1.

However, none of them can compare to the new Spanish Colonial Style, beautifully published by Rissoli in association with the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, and authored by Pamela Skewes-Cox (granddaughter of the Craig's) and historian Robert Sweeney with new photography by Matt Walla.The book is a biographical and architectural odyssey of the development of the designs of James Osborne Craig and later his wife, Mary McLaughlin Craig. His designs in the late nineteen fifteens and early twenties were the fountainhead of the architecture that established the quintessential character of Santa Barbara's Spanish style as an expression of Andalusian simplicity. In just a few years before his untimely death in 1922, James Osborne Craig had matured to be capable of designing El Paseo and the Hoffman House, architecture that is unmatched to this day.After his death, Mary his widow took up his practice and matured into a designer to match her husband's beautiful simplicity in her architecture for a row of houses facing Mission Santa Barbara, lovingly known as Plaza Rubio. An Impressive Reflection on New Architecture in the United States By Zamora Spanish Colonial Style is a new touchstone for Architects, Planners, and students of American architecture and history.After the outsized jubilance of the Panama-California and Panama Pacific Expositions of 1915, James Osborne and Mary McLaughlin Craig were joined by a host of architects and planners in the nitty-gritty work of transforming early 20th century Santa Barbara into a designed city unlike any other in the country. The Craigs were instrumental in forging Southern California’s new Spanish Colonial Style, which was so successfully adopted and continued by their peers and successors that the Craig’s early and formative contributions have been relatively overlooked until now.Like many Santa Barbara architects of their time, James and Mary Craig’s work bridged the contemporary divides between the public, private, and commercial realms. Though James Osborne Craig’s career was cut short by illness, his work has a unique vigor and inventiveness that is remarkable for both the brevity of his career and the compactness of his designs. After James died in 1922, Mary’s work continued in Southern California and in other parts of the country.This book is thoroughly researched, superbly edited, and contains a wealth of otherwise unavailable drawings and photographs.
