Really a good deal if not the best-ever book on goldwork By Jane in Milwaukee See how much expensive this earlier first edition is:A-Z of Goldwork and Silk EmbroideryThe publisher issues so many books in the A~Z series but doesn't flood the market with them. So they become rare. If you have the first 2008 edition, you don't need this. It's virtually identical--same 156 pages. I think it's a pretty thorough book but best if you have embroidery experience. If you're brand new to goldwork, consider getting these too:Goldwork Embroidery: Designs and Projects (Milner Craft Series)Goldwork: Techniques, Projects and Pure InspirationMy favorite ones, though, are:Beginner's Guide to Goldwork and the much less known:New Ideas in Goldwork andThe Craft of Silk and Gold Thread Embroidery and Stump WorkOn this reviewed book, please check out the Look Inside! feature above. As you can see, the inside pages are nothing to write home about but the most important picture on the cover, IMH, is the one second down from the right--outlining the blue tear drop. The illustrations and directions of couching gold thread are pretty good. See the finished design of the paisley or "boteh" on the bottom 2nd from left picture of the cover. Nicely done.

Highly recommended for those who need a book to give you great advice and tips to get started in gold work. An invaluable asset for those needing a refresher course and haven't stitched with gold or silver threads in quite some time.

McKenna If you want to learn about gold or metallic embroidery this is the first book and perhaps the only book you will ever need. The descriptions of the various techniques are very clearly illustrated. The book is worth every penny.
