Together they flush mice out of their burrows with a garden hose and lay in the weeds watching the buzzards glide overhead as Mick lets his dreams wander. Trouble usually seems to find Mick no matter how hard he tries to avoid it. Whether it’s wind biking, camping out, a black panther on the loose, swaying trees, fighting a field fire, or storming the rat barn, his antics seem to land him in hot water. A good idea goes bad with cigarette loads in his dad’s cigar. Flushing out parkers on late-night country roads in a ‘34 Ford pickup, and challenging a locomotive as to who will stop first brings excitement. Cousin Del takes a bad situation in hand when bullies lay in wait for Mick whenever he ventures into town. Into the teenage years, the uneasy truce in Mick’s family turns volatile. In the dead of night, he leaves home in a dramatic scene when he learns of a murderous threat against him by his mother with a shot gun. Through sheer determination he makes his way alone, without his faithful companion. Fate brings Mick and Troubles together and a loving bond grows over the years. But as fate would have it, the trials of life tear them apart.

I can totally relate to growing up in the 60's. I read it in two days. Truly enjoy every bit of it. Waiting for the next edition.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good stuff! By Ed Dingo Grew up just north of Owosso, same age as the author, cruised the pits and Rohacs too. Had a '65 Impala Super Sport, dark blue, buckets, AND a 327! A good, friendly, read. And I mean it in a good way. It's as if a good friend and yourself were having a conversation and reminiscing of days gone by. Good memories, mostly good times. Some laughs and chuckles, some sad tsk tsk's too. I could identify with damn near everything written here. Good job and well done, Mick. Hell, I may have seen you in the Pits.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Fun Book To Read By Ken H. Mick Nolph has written an excellent account of what it was like to grow up in the sixties. I too grew up in that era and in reading the book it brought back many memories. His book reminds one that there was a time when life was simpler and it didn't take much to entertain a kid. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it held my interest all the way to the end. I hope he writes a sequel to this book.
