Beautiful photos. . .lackluster content By Cordelia Fitzgerald I was anxiously anticipating the arrival of this book, but was sadly disappointed after delving into it. While the quality of photography is stunning the content falls flat. The floral compositions were extremely lackluster and what was equally disappointing is that the rooms and homes chosen to shoot the photos in were not up to par with Veranda's superb magazine shoots. It's sad to say that it appears that the styling for each shoot was done in a hurry without careful thought as to floral design and atmosphere. While it is lovely to see and appreciate each flower for its own beauty, I just expected a superb book considering its source and the discerning demographic that makes up Veranda's readership.

The photos are a variety of super close-ups to wide shots of pretty rooms and everything in between. This is the kind of book you can take a break, relax and look at pretty photos to get you inspired to decorate and arrange your own.

By Hello Happy I enjoyed studying art history in college, especially the lavishly painted still-life’s of flowers — everything from Breughel to O’Keefe, I love them all. Veranda's The Romance of Flowers raises photography to the level of the great masters. Each full-page painterly photo and double-spread panorama show the absolute heights of artful, still-life photography, and the wide variety of flower arranging as well. It’s a brilliant coffee table book, in the very best sense. It’s all so incredibly beautiful, I’ve never seen anything quite like it before, just one jaw-dropping photo after another. There is a limited amount of text, portrayed in large and lovely typefaces — some quotations related to flowers, some inspirational keywords, some discussions of floral arranging, and so forth — which is engaging and well-written on its own, but primarily acts as a complement to the lavish photography. The book itself is very well-bound, with about 300 thick and large, semi-gloss pages (10.5″ x 12.5″). It is a masterwork in its own right, and a beautiful addition to my library and, yes, the new, gorgeous focus of my coffee table.
