Such materials, the authors note in their introduction, range from glossy brochures and dog food bags to gum wrappers and those annoying reader response cards that fall out off every magazine at all-too-regular intervals. With little preparation and the assumption that readers understand the basics of this Japanese art, LaFosse, Alexander, and the contributing designers plunge into the two-dozen-plus projects with a lot of heart and many instructions and illustrations as well as a DVD. About half the items, such as crumpled mushrooms, curler-unit balls, and paper hearts, are purely aesthetic, whereas the rest�different varieties of envelopes, a snack-bag wallet to hold coupons, reworked old games (checkers, anyone?)�serve practical functions. I have been doing origami for years, and like finding easy models I have never seen before. So far, my favorite is the Calendar Wreath but many others also look interesting.
10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful Book, But... By Jennifer O'Neil This is a beautiful book to look through...nice photography and the instructions are well done. It does come with a DVD, but we have not yet watched it. However, I felt that there were only a few really interesting or unusual pieces to make, and there seem to be quite a few "boxes" or other items often found in most origami books. I bought this for my 7-year old daughter (and myself :-) for Christmas, and although we both have enjoyed looking through it, we have only made a few things. To be honest, we have also found the internet to be the best source for new origami projects (sorry paper and printing industries!).This book is, however, far superior to a similar book ' Junk Mail Origami' that we found a complete waste of money.
