3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I wish our public library had a cat... By Sci-Fi Shorts Reader This is an incredibly fact filled look at the history of library cats. Really fascinating. It never would have occurred to me that cats will kill roaches. (Thankfully we're in an area that doesn't have them so the grossest thing my cats have brought in was a vole.) I also had to smile at the idea of someone "checking out" a cat and her kittens to do some mousing. Do you wonder where they stuck the barcode? Or the tattle tape?
2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Cute & Informative By Fiction Author Rhoda D'Ettore This is an extremely well researched compilation of the history of cats' residing at libraries. Personally, I never thought about cats and libraries, but it makes sense after the author explained the reasoning. There were a couple things that made me go "wow", like $80,000 in donations being rescinded because of a cat. The book is well documented with a bibliography at the end, and I do believe the claims the book makes as it takes you around the country at different time periods, telling of the tales of various "tails". This is a cute and informative read for any cat lover.I read this book on Kindle Unlimited

By Lavender Lady Library cats make so much more sense than library gerbils, which is what I grew up with in my hometown library. Great explanation and historical recounting of libraries that depended on "mousers" and "exterminators" from historical monks to modern day. Bartash-Dawley also discusses the social aspect of having library cats as "hosts" of the library (totally more social than gerbils jogging in little hamster wheels) and the value they bring. Pictures of library cats too!
